Welcome to The Elegant Goose. These terms govern your use of this site. By creating an account, bidding, or buying, you agree to them. They’re short — please read them.
What this site is
The Elegant Goose is a small, family-run shop selling curated items at fixed prices and by timed auction. All items are sold by us — this is not a marketplace for third-party sellers.
Accounts
You must provide a valid email address and keep your sign-in credentials to yourself. You’re responsible for activity on your account. We may suspend or close accounts that violate these terms, attempt to manipulate auctions, or abuse the site or the people running it.
Bidding
- A bid is a commitment to buy. If you are the winning bidder when an auction ends, you agree to purchase the item at your winning bid amount.
- To place bids you must have a valid payment card on file and a shipping address on your account.
- Bids cannot be retracted. Bid carefully.
- Auctions may use a soft close: bids placed in the final moments may extend the auction briefly so that everyone gets a fair last look.
- We reserve the right to cancel a bid or an auction in cases of obvious error, fraud, or technical failure.
Payment
- Winning an auction authorizes us to charge your card on file for the winning amount, typically shortly after the auction closes. This is the reason a card is required to bid.
- If your card cannot be charged, we’ll provide a way to complete payment. If payment is not completed within a reasonable time, we may cancel the sale and offer the item to another bidder or relist it, and may restrict your ability to bid in future auctions.
- Fixed-price purchases are paid at checkout.
- Prices are in US dollars. Any applicable taxes are shown at payment where required.
Shipping
We ship to the address on your account at the time of sale. Please keep it current — we show the address we’re shipping to on your account page, and you can correct it up until we dispatch. Shipping timelines are estimates, not guarantees.
Returns and issues
If an item arrives damaged or is materially not as described, contact us at 1elegantgoose@gmail.com within 7 days of delivery and we’ll make it right — replacement, repair, or refund at our reasonable discretion. Auction sales are otherwise final.
Item descriptions
We describe items honestly and photograph them accurately, but many items are vintage, handmade, or one of a kind. Minor variations and honest wear consistent with an item’s age and description are not defects.
Acceptable use
Don’t attempt to interfere with auctions, probe or disrupt the site’s security, scrape the site, or use it for anything unlawful. Don’t be cruel to the people running it — this is a family business, and we extend the same courtesy to you.
Our liability
The site is provided as-is. To the fullest extent permitted by law, our total liability for any claim related to a sale is limited to the amount you paid for the item in question. We’re not liable for indirect or consequential damages, or for downtime, errors, or data loss beyond our reasonable control.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Indiana, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute will be handled in the state or federal courts located in Indiana.
Changes
We may update these terms; the date at the top reflects the latest version. Continued use after a change means you accept the updated terms. Significant changes will be noted on the site.
